'KIKAMBALA HASH' - SOME WERE
NOT SEEN DURING THE WHOLE RUN

BUT WERE ENTHUSIASTICALLY GREETED
AT THE LAKESIDE WATERING HOLE

.

Coastweek - - Unfortunately, the Kikambala Run did not materialize, as the Hare, RHole, did not manage to do a reccy, because he spent too much time (because he only has half a brain, which is more than enough for Hashing), thinking up a contrived World Cup menu for Gecko Village, featuring such delicacies as:

  • Brazilian Ronaldo Dumpling

  • Italian Histrionic Salad

  • Olde English Rooney Metatarsal Bone Soup

  • Spanish Perennial Underachiever Paella

  • Iranian Nuclear Strength Chilli, and

  • Good Ole Boys Democracy and Freedom Guantanamo Chowder

That, along with the latest pandemic, which causes folk to forget work, family, social life and plonk themselves in front of the telly, you got it, World Cup Fever, meant that Plan B came into operation.

This plan involved RHole setting a short but beautifully marked trail from old Kendas, and letting co-hare Kivuva and pseudo hare, Tonga Tinga, be sweepers.

This was while RHole watched England struggle to shine against Paraguay, whose main claim to fame is being the refuge of many German "conscientious objectors".

The trail led back from Kendas into the hinterland of Mtwapa before turning right towards KARI.

It then went back to the main road and crossed over to the folly gate in the big maize shamba, taking a loop through there before the On Inn back to Kendas in time to see the clientelle there nodding off after giving up hope of England doing anything inventive on the football pitch.

Meanwhile, and much more importantly, up in Nairobi, Kenya beat Tunisia in a Rugby World Cup Qualifier - well done to them.

Anticipating more World Cup Fever, next weeks run will be a Bash, to take place at Once again, the pack assembled at Bamburi Nature Trails, for another run/ jog/ power walk through the cool forest.

I use the word, assemble, loosely because the Hashers turned up at different times and started the trail in semi-autonomous groups.

They managed to link up somehow, either through short cutting or by getting lost and emerging from the bush onto a main trail, frightening their friends, who are fearing that a jealous bull eland is going to have a word with them.

Some were not seen during the whole run but were enthusiastically greeted at the lakeside watering hole.

SWANK HHH has now also moved into Bike Hashing. The "rules" are the same. The hares  lay a trail of powder marks, complete with checks and false trails.

The first "trial run" was held last week (Oct 15th).

It started from HQ Mtwapa and led through the 'mustuni' all the way up to Sun n Sand, then crossed the main road at Kanamai before winding back through the hinterland  to Mtwapa, 28 km in all.

There were some sore bottoms but it was a great success.

This will probably become a monthly event, watch this space.
