Run No. 153 - 21st January 2006 - Report

A Splendid Place: Kongo Beach

A motley bunch of regulars, returnees and virgins turned up at Shane Punjab Restaurant down in Diani for Run No. 153. Despite the rigours of crossing the ferry (Soon to be by-passed by a beautiful new road – oh yeah! They have been saying that for the last 20years!!! Is that an Anglo-Leasing contract?) the pack managed to get to the venue more or less on time at 4PM. Now this is strange, given that, normally, they cannot make it to Nyali before 5.30PM !!

Anyway, the trail was fairly straight forward, meaning really straight along the tarmac, although Emily and Maria persuaded the GM to follow them on a long false check, for which they later suffered. We eventually reached a hold at the beautiful Kongo Mosque beach, where Mariam accused the GM of taking a short cut. I reminded her that I did not get where I am today by sheepishly following the trail. The way the west was won was by using your initiative and forging your own trail. Of course, by doing this you can also stumble into a ravine or a den of thieves but we are not afraid cos’ we have guns, and bullets two (or is it too?).

Sorry I digress, and anyway, the GM is inviolate and cannot be challenged in this way by mere normal people.

So, the trail took off along the beach, before returning to Shane Punjab Restaurant for the circle. And anyone who imagined that they saw Quicky and the GM take a White Cap on the way and then travel by matatu to the circle must have been dreaming – RIGHT?

Hares, returnees, virgins and sinners were all punished/rewarded with down downs, and there were christenings for Brian and Shazaad. Their new names cannot be repeated in this journal. If you want to find out what they are then come along to: NEXT WEEK’S RUN
